My brother shared a video with me today. It was so great, I replayed it through my Sunday. It was so great that I had to write this blog post about it.

Recently, I wrote out a detailed piece on how I like to compete. It’s true what I said in the post, I thrive on competition.

However, the video brought up an important thought. Who you compete with, and why you compete will change over time. Even that game you’re playing will certainly change over time as you grow.

But over time, and throughout the coarse of your life, there’s just really one competition that matters.

You. In life, it’s You vs. You. In life, they say that the greatest fear one really has is not your inability but the fact that you are capable of limitless things and with your focus you can become unstoppable.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ”˜Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? ”” Marianne Williamson

Here’s the video:

Greatness comes from within. From pitting you, against you. You against you against you. Until the greatest version of you… triumphs.

A funny thing happens when you start to think of yourself as your competitor. Fear subsides about what your competitor is capable of (whomever or whatever it may be).

Fear subsides of the unknown.

And an unfamiliar rush comes over you ”” because you can see your competition, you know your competition, and you know what you’re capable of.

And you know what you can accomplish. And you say to your self as you look yourself in the eye: game on.

Peter Thiel says competition is for losers. I agree. Competition for the sake of competing usually is a race to the bottom. But competing on unfair advantages?

Competing with yourself to become unstoppable? Game on.
